As AI agents reshape the web, Google opens Gemini and Search to more apps

Google has introduced the Connected Apps Platform, a beta service that lets U.S. developers build, submit, and monitor integrations for Gemini and Google Search. Connected apps allow users to securely link third-party services and use them through Google’s AI experiences, such as using Canva to create a flyer or YouTube Music to build a playlist. Developers can connect through a cloud-hosted Model Context Protocol server or Android MCP using AppFunctions APIs, then register, test, and submit integrations through the Google Connected Console. They can select whether an app is available in Search, the Gemini app, or both. Once live, developers can monitor traffic, latency, and error rates while retaining verified logos and authenticated accounts. Gemini already offers more than 50 Connected Apps, including integrations from Adobe, Experian, Localiza, and Peloton, alongside Google services such as Workspace, Photos, YouTube Music, and Google Home. Google plans to bring these apps to Search over the next few weeks; Search currently supports integrations including Instacart, Canva, YouTube Music, and Yahoo Fantasy Football. Meditation app Calm is set to launch on both Gemini and Search. The platform is in public preview through a waitlist, and Google has not announced wider availability.
