  • Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains

    news

    3 min read

A Namecheap customer said the registrar locked their account and disabled all of its domains after sending an email requiring identity-verification documents within 72 hours. The customer, who said they had used Namecheap for 12 years and held only renewed domains, said they were away for several days and discovered their servers were down after missing the deadline. The notice reportedly said the account had been selected for a routine account-information accuracy check and would remain locked pending requested documentation. The customer said they supplied the documents and had waited 24 hours without an explanation or restoration estimate. They said Namecheap support directed the matter to its Risk Management team, which allegedly communicated only by email and did not disclose details through chat. The customer said their primary account email depended on domains that were disabled, forcing them to pay for another email host and consider changing hostnames to keep clients online. They also said chat support eventually added another email address to the account after roughly four hours, without requesting ownership verification. The account reportedly had two-factor authentication enabled, and the customer said they had not logged in for at least 20 days.
