  • British Airways: Filming Crew W Meta Glasses Could Get Your Tickets Cancelled

    news

    3 min read

British Airways’ conditions of carriage prohibit passengers from filming, livestreaming, or photographing BA crew and other employees without consent. The airline can intervene to stop unauthorized recording onboard and, after landing, remove a passenger and refuse transportation on the remaining sectors of the ticket, potentially including a booked return flight. Its conditions also allow it to report incidents to authorities when a criminal offense may have occurred, although violating an airline filming policy alone is not necessarily a crime. Paddle Your Own Kanoo reported that British Airways has updated its rules to address covert filming through Meta AI smart glasses at airports and on aircraft. The glasses themselves are not prohibited, but their built-in cameras do not exempt users from the airline’s restrictions on recording employees without permission. British Airways’ conditions do not specifically name Meta glasses in the cited provisions, but existing language covers unauthorized recording regardless of device. The policy follows restrictions introduced earlier in the year against photographing, filming, or livestreaming BA employees without consent. Recording rules may also be affected by laws governing a particular journey, including in the European Union.

  • Meta confirms smart glasses were recording without being activated

    news

    2 min read

Meta confirmed that a software issue caused some Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses to record and transcribe conversations without users activating them. A Meta spokesperson told Android Authority that the issue had been resolved and said users can manage, review, and delete voice logs from Meta AI interactions through the settings menu. A Reddit user reported that recordings occurred despite the “Hey Meta” activation prompt not being used and the setting for prompt-free activation being disabled. The user said the glasses’ white activation light turned on during conversations and that the behavior occurred across three pairs of Ray-Ban Meta glasses, including second- and third-generation models. Other users reported similar experiences in the discussion. Meta did not disclose the cause of the issue or specify how many devices or users were affected. Earlier in 2026, an investigation found that videos captured by Meta smart glasses had been sent to offshore Meta data-labeling workers in Kenya for AI training, including sensitive and intimate footage.

  • Meta Files Patent for Facial Recognition, Automatic Recording of People

    news

    2 min read

Meta has filed a patent application describing a “memory recall” system for smart glasses that could identify people through facial recognition, detect actions, automatically capture video, and later generate highlight reels. An illustrated example depicts the system recognizing moments at a dinner party and offering a user generated highlights from the event. The patent materials described in the report do not show a prompt seeking permission before recording begins. Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses use a white capture LED that blinks while content is recorded. Meta says covering or disabling the LED automatically disables the camera, and has released updates intended to prevent recording when the light is malfunctioning or obscured. Meta has also promoted the indicator as a distinction from phones and action cameras, which generally lack an outward-facing recording light. A patent filing does not establish that Meta will release the feature. The report also says a future version of the glasses might record without the indicator light, which would remove the visible signal currently intended to notify bystanders of recording. Meta was also reported earlier in 2026 to have sent clips containing bank details, sexual activity, and nude people to workers for AI training with limited privacy protections.

  • "A serious threat to privacy" Meta issued warning by 75 orgs over planned facial recognition in smart glasses

    news

    2 min read

Meta's planned integration of facial recognition technology into smart glasses has prompted a coalition of 75 organizations to issue a warning, labeling it a “serious threat to privacy.” The coalition urges Meta to abandon the facial recognition initiative due to concerns over privacy implications.

    news
