Stripe plans to acquire OpenRouter, an AI model marketplace and gateway that provides access to more than 400 models through one interface. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the coming weeks. OpenRouter said it will keep its name, product, mission, roadmap, and existing customer integrations unchanged after the deal closes. OpenRouter says it processes more than 10 trillion tokens per day for more than 10 million developers and companies, and that its inference volume has grown at least tenfold annually since its founding in early 2023. Its platform offers model discovery, provider choice, model-agnostic observability, cost management, and routing intended to optimize price, performance, and uptime. The company said routing decisions will continue to be based on users’ interests rather than the preferences of any model provider or parent company. OpenRouter said Stripe’s customer network, data on internet-business growth, global infrastructure experience, and fraud and abuse capabilities will help it expand faster. The company employs about 90 people and said it intends to grow while preserving the startup’s velocity, agility, efficiency, and talent density.
